Notary Public

Effective April 1, 2015 - Notary Public applications are to be filled out online thought the Georgia Clerks' Authority. 

Georgia notaries are commissioned for four-year terms by the Clerk of Superior Court. The fee for a new notary appointment or for reappointment is $51.00. 

Important Notes:

  • If you are a legal resident of the State of Georgia, you may only apply in your county of residence. (You may notarize documents in any county within Georgia.)

  • If you are a legal resident of a state bordering on the State of Georgia, and are regularly employed or carry on a business or profession in Georgia, you may only apply in the county of employment. (You may notarize documents in any county within Georgia.)

The Application Process for New Appointments or for Reappointment in 5 Easy Steps:

Step 1: Visit The Georgia Clerks' Authority to complete your application online. 

Step 2: Print your application once finished and have two witnesses sign your application. These two witnesses are character references who live in your county of application, have known you for over 30 days, and are not related to you.

Step 3: Complete the Free Web-Based Notary Training Course on the Georgia Clerks' Authority's website. You will need to create an account to complete the training course. Click here to be directed to the account set up and you will be directed to the training course. 

**This training course is implemented and required by the State of Georgia.

Step 4: Bring the signed application to our office to finish the application process, pay the appointment fee, and take the oath of office.

Step 5: Purchase a notary seal (metal emboss type or rubber ink stamp) from an office supply store or from a notary trade association. Note: For renewing notaries: you may use your existing notary seal/stamp if the information on the seal matches exactly the information on the new commission.
